I am so excited to share this coffee with you! It’s the first time we are featuring a coffee from El Salvador. Like its neighbouring Central American countries, El Salvador grows some exceptional coffees.

The Kenora is a lighter roast blend created to highlight the juicy, plummy, hibiscus notes of this small lot - very exclusive - coffee from El Salvador.

Huskie the Musky

The KENORA’s label features Huskie the Musky - a giant statue of a muskellunge (a variety of pike) that sits next to the Trans-Canada Highway in Kenora.

This drawing has my husband, Joe, next to Huskie the Musky. The real life Huskie is 12m / 40 feet tall and is in McLeod Park at the north end of Lake of the Woods. The original Huskie the Muskie was built in 1967 for Canada’s Centennial. Joe and I stopped by for a photo and to stretch our legs on a cross-Canada road trip a few years ago. Coffee from El Salvador

The Kenora is our first coffee from El Salvador. Like its close neighbours, Guatemala and Honduras, this small country produces some exceptional coffees. Unfortunately, it was hit hard by coffee leaf rust (a fungus) almost 10 years ago and it’s taken until now for the crops to build back. But it’s back, baby! And we are so happy to be able to share Salvadoran coffee with you!

The coffee in The Kenora is a natural process Bourbon coffee, grown in the western highlands where the coffee trees literally surround ancient Mayan artifacts.

(Translation: this coffee is a sweet, full-bodied variety of coffee (Bourbon) which is dried without first removing the fruit (natural process), resulting in a fruitier, sweeter coffee than the more commonly used washed process.)

How to Brew The Kenora?

With a lighter roast and really special coffee, like The Kenora, I like to make it in a filter coffee maker - pour over, auto drip, Chemex, any of those. The Kenora is also super yummy made as French Press. And, of course, I love EVERY coffee in an Aeropress. But you do you, and make it in your fave coffeemaker. I’m sure it’ll be delicious, however you brew it.

If you’re a double double drinker, try to cut down on the cream to let the sweet, jammy, hibiscus notes of The Kenora shine through.

The Roadside Attraction Coffee Series

The Roadside Attraction series of seasonal coffees celebrates our love for coffee, for road trips, and for Canada by creating limited edition coffees named for and inspired by Canadian Roadside Attractions.

The names and logos of these coffees are inspired by giant sculptures and other quirky and cool attractions that are found across Canada - like Kenora’s Husky the Muskie.

Every few weeks we bring out a new Roadside Attraction Series coffee. These coffees may be a single-origin (from one country or even part of a small lot from one farm) or a blend of special beans from a couple places.

One thing is for sure, each one is a limited edition. It's only around for a few weeks so try it out while you can!
